Project Description
deFerrers Specialist Technology College commissioned a new two storey extension to provide 5 general teaching classrooms, 2 ICT teaching facilities and a Drama Studio. Also as part of the project, 8 existing classrooms were refurbished to provide enhanced teaching environments, a new science room and food technology facilities. The extension was built utilising modern methods of construction in the form of pre-cast concrete panels with facing brickwork externally to match the existing building. This provided a robust, quick turn-around solution, minimising future maintenance of the building whilst giving good thermal mass. Solar control glazing was also utilised to maximise natural daylight whilst maintaining thermal comfort. The refurbishment works were successfully planned and executed within the summer break to minimise disruption to the day to day school operation.
