In the Lichfield and Burntwood area a lack of Vocational Education and Learning was identified by Staffordshire County Council. This was contrary to Government Policy and a site at Chase Terrace Technology College was identified as a possible solution. etc Design Ltd were approached by the County Council to find a solution.

The original school had recently been rebuilt following a fire and although the new facility was to be separate from the school there was a requirement for some aesthetic continuity in both form and material.

The solution proposed was developed around a central open courtyard which included a monitored single point of entry and access to all departments. The overall building design consisted of a mix of two and single storey areas comprising facades of matching facing brickwork and render, complete with low mono pitch and flat low level roofs.

Considerable research into similar facilities was undertaken with all stakeholders and the County Council to arrive at the specific requirements for various subjects. The facility provides a Hair Salon, Beauty Salon, Construction Department, Catering Department, Engineering Workshop, Learning and Resource Centre, General Teaching Classroom, Break Out Space and ancillary facilities.

etc Design Ltd were appointed to provide the Full Design Team including Cost Consultant, Structural and Civil Engineering and M & E Consultancy Services. Our appointment included developing the Client’s brief, preparing conceptual designs, obtaining full Planning and Building Regulation Approvals, preparing the technical design, tender documentation and contract administration through to overall project completion.
