Luxury Conversion & Extension of a Grade II Listed Home

Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield

Client:

Private

Floor Area (sqm)

Value (£m)

This privately owned grade II listed Arts and Crafts property, being empty for two years, required complete refurbishment to convert it into a modern executive family home.

etc Design Ltd were appointed part way through the process to secure planning and listed building consents and to provide alternative designs for a contemporary rear extension that both satisfied the clients requirements and those of Historic England.

Traditional external materials were selected: brick, glass and zinc, to encase a modern open plan two storey structural frame that sensitively connects with the main house and retains the majority of the original outbuildings, which give this building its historical significance. Now completed this 7 bedroom, 3 storey property is a  family home again complete with; 5.1m high sliding glass walls, structural frameless glazed corridors, gallery studio, wine cellar and a 200 sqm gym and entertainment rooms in the basement.

Following refurbishment of the main house, etc Design Ltd as lead designers worked with the client and design team to progress the detailed technical design for the contemporary rear extension and planning proposals for a separate swimming pool building linked underground to the main house. The rear extension was completed to a high standard by contractors, Southbank Building and Development.
